You’re invited for a behind the scenes sneak peek into the intricate art of crafting stringed instruments at Bluett Brothers Violins. On a FREE tour you’ll learn a thing or two about playing melodious music, and the complexities of fashioning the instruments themselves.

FREE tours are available by Monday and Tuesday from noon to 3 p.m. as well as by appointment. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 717-854-9064. Watch as luthier Mark Bluett transforms a few blocks of wood into a variety of stringed instruments, including violins, mandolins, cellos and more. Bluett’s signature instruments are created from the finest of woods including spruce, curly maple and mahogany. The woods Bluett uses must air-dry a minimum of twenty years in order to achieve optimum sound quality.

Like wine, wood too gets better with age.
 
On your tour you'll discover how Mark Bluett has honed his ability to read the wood. He has a keen understanding of the density and stability of different woods. He knows how to identify varying grain direction and how to shape each instrument to achieve not only the highest quality sound but also sight and touch as well. On your tour, you’ll be in sensory overload as you touch, smell and hear the musical process of crafting fine instruments.
